We are guided by principles of Sisterhood, Supporting the Family Unit, Economics, Environment, Social Justice, Community in six (6) International program Initiative areas:

  1. Strengthen Our Sisterhood

  2. Empower Our Families

  3. Build Our Economic Wealth

In addition, Nu Gamma Omega Chapter supports chapter-specific programs, initiatives, such as domestic violence awareness, support of local food banks and shelters, an annual Debutante Cotillion Scholarship program, mentoring, and essay programs for middle school students. For more than forty (40) years, Nu Gamma Omega Chapter has continued its rich history of community service and sisterhood.

Over the last twenty (20) years, our chapter has awarded more than $400,000 in college scholarships to young women who reside in our service area. In addition to financial support of local college students, we continually implement local service programs such as the adoption of local shelters; a local domestic violence safe house and homeless shelter; to name a few.

As a chapter of resilient, resourceful and resolute women, each member is mentored to lead and empowered to serve. Our members are encouraged to develop and give time, talent, gift, skill to support innovative, impactful chapter programming and activities. Our Chapter members range in age from 22-80 and represent the fields of real estate, education, healthcare, public safety, social services, law, administration, accounting, other professional careers; business owners in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan area.

2024 is the year of LIFT. In order for an aircraft to rise into the air, SOAR, a force must be created that equals or exceeds the force of gravity. This force is called LIFT. What is our LIFT…sisterhood and service. We shall LIFT our sisters up higher; first by being present, being there, getting to know each other better, forging healthy relationships, being continual encouragers of each other in every phase and walk of life. We shall LIFT our hands, hearts, minds in service to our communities, our stakeholders and in the organization we have committed. It takes all of us working together, pooling talents, gifts, resources; volunteering time, energy, hand and heart to better our communities, our cities, our state, our nation, our world. One person cannot do it, that is why together …we LIFT.

We work with women who are caregiving, personally and professionally. We work with women who have experienced health challenges and who may be caring for spouses, loved ones, children, extended family. We work with gifted, talented, smart women with added duties, who are experiencing losses, and who have lost loved ones due to illness. We work with women who are pursuing degrees, writing dissertations, taking on new jobs, careers, starting businesses with additional job/work duties, handling more than what once was and who are experiencing new seasons in life. We work with women who are in varied phases of life. We are history makers, trailblazers; women who simply want to leave a rich legacy, that of our Founders, for generations to come. We are women who sacrifice, who don’t  settle but together SOAR.

If you are a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, and would like to virtually visit our chapter, have relocated and seeking a chapter home; please email our Membership Chairman, akangomembership1980@gmail.com.

We work tirelessly to create, maintain a culture of community where all sisters are welcome, valued, respected, heard, and encouraged to serve; LIFT.
